Sr. Data Analyst


Job Summary

The Data Analyst provides enterprise and project-level information analysis support that produces consistent, accurate, and complete information that enhances the analytic and reporting lifecycle throughout the enterprise. In support of the analytic and reporting lifecycle, this position will create data definitions, develop and manage the logical and physical views of data that are consistent with the business objectives.


The Data Analyst will work independently on projects of all degrees of complexity, supporting multiple business areas and advance their use of data and analytics. Through independent analysis design, the role defines, develops and implements data and business intelligence solutions.

Professional Responsibilities

General

  • Support analytics of DSC Logistics warehouses, operations, and transportation management businesses and related IT systems
  • Lead end-to-end design from project conception through deployment; managing solution design reviews, security deployment, and overall project’s solution design.
  • Obtain business requirements by gathering information obtained through business process reviews, individual interviews, document analysis, collection of specific business scenarios, and site visits.
  • Works with business and technical resources to determine whether the requirements can be reasonably met, and propose solutions for meeting the business requirements in the most cost-effective and efficient manner.
  • Assures that all deliverables adhere to customer and DSC standards.
  • Implements using Agile(Scrum) methodology

Technical Responsibilities

  • Provides knowledge and support for resolving technology issues across one or more areas of the business and across multiple projects
  • Analyzes and translates business, data, functional, and user requirements and/or business rules into analytic and reporting requirements, data models and metadata deliverables by leading and guiding discussions internally with the project team and externally with business and technology partners
  • Plans, develops and leads information gathering sessions
  • Constructs and executes complex SQL queries and review data profiling results to discover patterns and value of data under analysis
  • Performs complex data analysis utilizing multiple techniques to determine, document and communicate existing and potential future data relationships, profiles and quality levels; uncover anomalies and variances in data from expected results
  • Updates and maintains all logical (conceptual, relational, subject-level and dimensional) data models and other metadata deliverables at multiple levels of detail and functionality
  • Develops models and algorithms to support predictive analytics, machine learning and optimization
  • Understands, applies, teaches others and drive improvements in the use of metadata development tools and processes
  • Develops and keeps current approached to data management
  • Creates complex technical requirements through analyzing business and functional requirements

Project Management

  • Outlines tasks associated with requirements related project.
  • Provides day-to-day leadership to the assigned team members.
  • Looks for opportunities to offer constructive feedback, delegates effectively, and provides support and guidance to others.
  • Works effectively with client personnel and the project team to resolve implementation issues.

Skills/Qualifications

Education/Experience

  • BA or BS in Computer Science or another relevant field
  • Prior experience in data analytics
  • Must have a strong capability to deal with highly ambiguous problems. This is demonstrated through step-by-step and methodical approach to scoping, understanding & exploration to the right solution(s)
  • Knowledge of dimensional modeling & data warehousing.
  • Working experience using SQL
  • Knowledge of agile methodologies

Desirable Criteria

  • Knowledge of ETL process, especially using Microsoft BI stack, SQL Server
  • Experience using R or Python
  • Working knowledge of Warehouse Management Systems and Transportation Management Systems
  • Understanding of system architecture and application integration (front-end and back-end technologies, how they fit together)
  • Strong background in statistics (hypothesis testing)
