We are currently seeking a business driven, hands-on Senior Manager / Director of Transportation Finance at our Des Plaines, IL office. This person is responsible for the overall direction of the Transportation Finance function. This includes day-to-day oversight of the team responsible for review and processing of all third-party carrier freight bills and related customer invoices. It also involves close collaboration with the Transportation Operations, Corporate Accounting, IT and Accounts Receivable teams in the development, maintenance and continuous enhancement of the underlying processes and systems that support the day-to-day activities, allowing Transportation Finance to interface and interact with these other disciplines in a manner that maximizes the efficiencies and significant future potential within the Transportation Services area of the Company.

Requirements:

  • This position will directly manage the transportation finance team and provide strategic and operational leadership for transportation finance including the management of high volume freight bill payment and customer invoicing processes.
  • Oversee the carrier freight bill and customer invoice processing to ensure that carrier payment processing and customer invoicing are completed in a timely and accurate manner. The freight bill payment process will include resolution of any freight bill variances with the internal transportation team and the carriers.
  • Provide customers with an exceptional experience will require accurately invoicing customers and excellent system and communication skills to resolve any customer invoicing inquiries.
  • Manage individuals’ workloads to establish and maintain consistent workflows with respect to processing activities for each carrier and customer.
  • Development and maintenance of comprehensive process documentation, as well as the development and ongoing monitoring of metrics that track key performance indicators within this critical function.
  • Ensure that carrier payments and customer invoices are in compliance with current contractual agreements.
  • Work with related internal functions to monitor and update necessary databases with the most current rate tables and other variable, time-sensitive information.
  • Develop continuous strategic process improvements to maintain the quality, efficiency and overall effectiveness of the transportation finance functions and system of internal controls, to increase accuracy, and decrease risk of fraud and errors. Review and revise policies and procedures as necessary to accomplish such ends.
  • Provide leadership and direction for system development of the Mercury Gate transportation management system, including system interfaces with JD Edwards and the EDI processes.
  • Lead evaluation of outside system solutions that could be a portion of the overall transportation system architecture. This includes the further utilization of the HubTran software solution as well as other outside software solutions.
  • Create and further develop relationships with both internal and external systems support personnel, and function as the systems subject matter expert within transportation finance.
  • Support all start-up and transitional transportation services operations.

Candidates selected to interview must meet the following minimum requirements for consideration for this position:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required, Accounting, Finance or MIS preferred
  • Management or supervisory experience in a high-volume processing environment with regular weekly and monthly deadlines.
  • Well-developed problem solving skills and the ability to work independently to resolve issues.
  • Detail oriented with excellent analytical and organizational skills.
  • Excellent customer service skills with proven ability to build good relationships across the organization and with all levels of management.
  • Demonstrated experience managing complex projects, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and strict deadlines required.
  • Significant project roles in two or more systems conversions.
  • Generally requires a minimum of 7-10 years of experience in finance or accounting roles, including at least 3 years as a manager/supervisor within a high-volume processing environment, and 2 or more years in a logistics or transportation environment preferred.
